My Own Caribbean Island

I hate the cold. I'd rather just disappear into the midst of my own, private Caribbean island from New Year's Day to Memorial Day. I can see it. Lush green foliage edging a soft, sandy beach. The water is clear and a crystal blue. Very blue. The sun feels so warm as I sit there in the sand, the water lapping at my feet.

But it's been different this January. There have been quite a few days in the 40's, 50's and even some touching 60 degrees. One of those days was just this past Saturday. I sat out on my deck in the sunshine for a while without a coat. It was comfortable and warm like an early Spring day. I tinkered around for a while enjoying the golden rays, brushing an occasional spot of dirt from the house siding as I circled the building with a broom.

This morning, I awoke to 2 or 3 inches of snow and slush covering the ground. The evergreens hung heavy, encrusted in frosty white. Winter was back. I fired up the Saab and proceeded to wade around the car brushing away it's snowy veil. Had I planned enough time to do this chore, I worried. But I made it to work on time, and all was well.

I don't think it made it out of the 30's today. It's ok, though. With all the great weather we've had so far this year, I guess I won't complain too much. I suppose my island can wait a little longer.

As long as your not closterphobic, an island should be fine.
